Prior to Mac OS X 10.7, some claimed that QuickTime Player 7 could play SVCDs with the addition of the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. Unfortunately, the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component cannot be installed on Mac OS X 10.7 and later as QuickTime Player includes support for some MPEG-2 formats. QuickTime has the ability to play back MPEG-2 content via the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. It is available as an add-on to QuickTime 6 or QuickTime 7. Learn more about MPEG-2. Once you have ordered the MPEG-2 Playback Component through the Apple Online Store, the component can be accessed via your account.

I am new to Mac so please forgive my ignorance. I have a Sony video camera which has .mpg files. I wanted to use these files in imovie so I googled how to convert them and came up with MPEG Streamclip. It wiped my MPEG-2 Playback Component. I downloaded it again from the Apple store but when I went to install it told me it was too old for my system. What can I do now?
(P.S. hating that I converting anything to mac is so bloody complicated)
